About Us
Built on strong academic foundations, our cross-disciplinary Research Hub unites global experts across AI, cybersecurity, advanced materials, health, and the built environment. We don’t just research; we deliver. Our team has a proven track record of driving commercial success, from securing patents and launching startups to bringing market-ready products to life.
In 2025, IC-SensE was awarded funding from the Australian Research Council under the Industrial Transformation Research Hub program. By partnering with industry leaders across health and medical devices, AI, environmental and energy, software development, and defence, the Hub is driving the development of next-generation sensing technologies.
IC-SensE Directors

Professor Sumeet Walia, Hub Director
As Hub Director, Sumeet leads the strategic vision of the Hub and drives collaborative research projects with industry partners. He also leads two fundamental research teams at RMIT: the Micro-Nano Research Facility (MNRF) and the Centre for Opto-Electric Materials and Sensors (COMAS).

Professor Mark Hutchinson, Deputy Director, Research Training and Entrepreneurship
Drawing on his extensive experience in managing research centres and teams, Mark plays a key role in mentoring and supporting our early- and mid-career researchers. He helps them develop the skills and capabilities needed to translate their research discoveries from the laboratory into real-world impact and industry opportunities.

Professor Noushin Nasiri, Deputy Director, Translation and Engagement
With extensive experience translating pioneering nanomaterials into real-world, life-saving solutions, Noushin supports the IC-SensE Project teams in delivering applied research that addresses key challenges facing Australia’s sensor sector.

Alexandra Davis,Chief Operating Officer
Alexandra bridges the gap between academic researchers, industry partners and IC-SensE universities, overseeing the Hub’s day-to-day operations, strategic planning and corporate governance.
